Sports and recreation

   Football, beach soccer, handball, karate, jiu-jitsu and rallies are all practiced by athletes in Poddębice. In 2007, our town also welcomed footballtennis and rugby.

   The town is home of active sport clubs and associations:
1) LKS Ner Poddębice – a club with 50-year traditions, includes football teams in various age group. The club also runs a handball section for boys (born in 1989, 1990 and 1994).

2) PLKS Dąb Poddębice – includes sport and recreation sections of table tennis, paintball and climbing. The club, founded in 2003, also acts for the benefit of the disabled.

3) UKS Trops Poddębice – a club at the Polish Pilots Primary School no. 1 in Poddębice, where young athletes born in 1995 and 96 can practise handball.

4) Association for Promotion of Sports and Recreation “Dragon” in Poddębice – children and teenagers has been practising karate since 1998. “Dragon” has trained multiple Polish, Europe and World Champions.

5) WIT Poddębice Association – the association runs a senior beach soccer team and jiu-jitsu martial art section.

   Poddębice regularly hosts regional and national sporting events:
- Regional Special Olympics Football Tournament – a tournament lasting a few days and including the disabled from Silesia, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Masovia and Łódź regions. Unified teams of the disabled and able-bodied can also participate.

- for the last four years, Poddębice has been the regional promoter of beach soccer. It is the only town in central Poland to organise such tournaments. In the first year of our beach soccer pitch, the first Regional Beach Soccer Championship was organised. In 2006, apart from the Regional Beach Soccer Championship, we have also hosted the Eliminations for the European B League, for which Poddębice has received an award from European Beach Soccer Federation in Barcelona. The city hosted teams from Greece, England, Ukraine and Poland. In 2007, we have hosted the Elimination of the 5th Polish Championships and finals for the 5th Polish Cup.

- twelve leading teams has competed on Poddębice stadium in Polish Rugby Sevens Championship. In 2007, the event was organised for the first time in Poddębice. - Also in 2007, twelve teams competed in the 2nd Polish Footbaltennis Championship. Our town also had the opportunity to observe world and European champions in this sport.

- National Kids’ Handball Championship has been held in Poddębice for seven years. It features teams from all over Poland. Furthermore, our town hosts Łódź Kids’ league, in which boys and girls from Poddębice’s schools actively participate.

- Fudokan Karate Championship have been organised for nine years. Kata and kumite tournaments feature contestants from various Polish cities, in many age categories. The tournaments are always well attended by the fans.
